New to teaching in education
- Date: 19 Jul 2012 - 20 Jul 2012
- Location/venue: The Roxburghe Hotel, 38 Charlotte Square, Edinburgh, EH2 4HQ
New to teaching in education?
We are holding two two-day residential events for recently-appointed colleagues teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Education Studies/Initial Teacher Education.
The workshops are ideally suited for colleagues in their first year of teaching in HE or those who are studying towards a PhD and have teaching commitments.
This is your chance to meet colleagues from other institutions who are also new to teaching in education – to share your experiences and learn from one another.
While there will be plenty of opportunities to network and to discuss issues you raise, the events will be structured around a number of inputs and activities. These will be led by experienced lecturers in Education Studies and Initial Teacher Education. Topics covered include:
- Experiences as a new teacher
- Qualities of a ‘good’ HE teacher
- Balancing academic duties – teaching, research, administration, leadership
- Education in HE today
- Effective use of technology
- Curriculum development
- Approaches to assessment and feedback
- UK Professional Standards Framework and Fellowship of the HEA
Places are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.
Attendance is free for delegates and attendees may be eligible for funding of travel expenses via the HEA UK Travel Fund.
