Discussion Papers: Submission of Refereed Abstracts

We will allocate 25-30 minutes for Discussion Papers. Abstracts of 500 words maximum should be submitted in electronic format (see submission form below) and should include:

  • Title of paper
  • Title of stream
  • Name(s) and institutional affiliation of author(s), plus email contact address/es
  • Problem statement/rationale, including reference to key literature
  • Research design and methods of data collection and analysis or method of inquiry
  • Main findings
  • Discussion of implications
  • List of key references/resources

These should be sent to BMAFconference@brookes.ac.uk and entitled ‘Conference 2011 Discussion Paper Abstract (Author Name)' to arrive no later than Friday 21st January 2011.

All abstracts will be blind peer reviewed, and authors will receive a final decision and feedback by Friday 25th February 2011. Final versions of abstracts will be included in a conference handbook.

Presenters are encouraged to bring hard copies of their paper to the conference, as constraints make it difficult to organise fully published conference proceedings. Where possible we would be pleased to make a copy of full papers available after the event through the conference website and permission will be sought for that nearer to the time.

Laptops and data projectors will be available in each room. Ideally contributors should provide their presentation to the conference team in advance by e-mail or on a memory stick to minimise delays and technical problems on the day.

Submissions of Proposals for Workshops/Discussion Groups

We will allocate up 45 or 90 minutes to Workshops and Discussion Groups. These can be on any topic related to the conference theme and/or streams. They can include interactive sessions, ‘showcases' introducing new learning ‘objects' and projects, or ‘round-table' discussions on topics of interest. We are keen to attract presentations from relevant BMAF grant holders Teaching Fellows and CETLs.

Proposals for workshops should be no longer than 300 words and should be submitted in electronic format (see Workshop Proposal Form below) and include:

  • Title
  • Name(s) and institutional affiliation of author(s), plus email contact address/es
  • Rationale for the workshop/discussion and how it relates to the conference theme
  • Objectives/outcomes
  • Outline plan for the session plus timings (not included in word count)

These should be sent to BMAFconference@brookes.ac.uk and entitled ‘Conference 2011 Workshop Proposal (Leader Name)' to arrive no later than Friday 21st January 2011. A final decision and feedback will be provided no later than Friday 25th February 2011.

Laptops and data projectors will be available in each room. Ideally contributors should provide their presentation to the conference team in advance by e-mail or on a memory stick to minimise delays and technical problems on the day.

Posters on Learning Projects and Activities

We are inviting posters for display in the foyer during the conference. Posters should be presented on one piece of A1 size paper. They can be on any topic related to the conference theme and can report on either research or practice. Proposals for posters should be submitted electronically (see Paper Proposal Form below) and include poster content and aims and objectives, these should be sent to BMAFconference@brookes.ac.uk by Friday 21st January 2011.

We particularly welcome contributions by colleagues who hold Teaching, Research and Development Grant awards sponsored by BMAF. A final decision will be provided by Friday 25th February 2011.

Posters will be displayed in the refreshment areas throughout the conference and there is a timetabled period on Tuesday when Poster Owners should be present so that delegates can come and discuss the ideas presented.
