HEA Annual Conference 2011

The 2011 HEA Annual Conference took place at the East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham from 5-6 July 2011.

The title for the 2011 conference was "Changing Practice - Changing Times", exploring challenges and changes to the sector over the next five years.

There were five main sub themes: Models of Change, Internationalisation, Postgraduate Provision, Institutional CPD Frameworks and Changing and Developing Practice in Student Engagement.

Our conference:

  • disseminated and showcased evidence informed practice from the sector
  • facilitated the discussion and debate of pertinent issues relating to the student learning experience
  • provided networking and professional development opportunities for participants

Conference Highlights

Day 1 Keynote: Mark Damazer CBE, Master, St Peter's College, Oxford, and a former controller of BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 7
Day 2 Keynote: Wes Streeting, Chief Executive of the Helena Kennedy Foundation
Day 2 Question time panel chaired by Mike Baker will consider the challenges and changes to the sector over the next five years. Panelists included:

  • Alex Bols, Head of Education and Quality, NUS;
  • Professor Ann Caesar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, University of Warwick;
  • Professor Claire Callender, Professor of Higher Education Policy, Birkbeck;
  • Stephen Jackson, Director of Reviews, QAA;
  • Wes Streeting, Chief Executive, Helena Kennedy Foundation
