Higher Education as a Site of Human Resource Development Practice: A European Perspective

DATE: 16 Oct 2009
LOCATION/VENUE: Old Broadcasting House, Leeds Metropolitan University, UK

Description

The UFHRD and BMAF HRD SIG invite you to attend a free workshop organised by the HRD, Leadership and Enterprise Research Group at Leeds Business School.

Context
HRD is argued by many writers to encompass education as well as training and development. That being the case provision of higher education in any and all subjects and disciplines forms part of and is a component of HRD practice. The logic of that statement is that all academics are engaged in HRD practice and research into learning, teaching and assessment practised in HE programmes is in fact research in HRD. A further consequence of the logic is that research into HRD in other contexts and forms, for example in employing organisations, will have relevance and application in HE learning, teaching and assessment. All of this is arguably even more the case in relation to enterprise education. The overall purpose of this workshop is to explore the validity of these claims and their implications for learning and teaching across HE programmes.

Aims
To examine and critique the claim that universities are in their very nature and purpose sites of HRD practice. To explore the implications of the claim for the practice of learning, teaching and assessment in HE across all disciplines.
