The second BMAF Internationalisation SIG Workshop, attended by over 40 delegates, took place on 6th March 2008 at The Keyworth Centre, London South Bank University.

The topic was "International Students: Teaching and Learning."

Delegates enjoyed a range of sessions and some lively debate on the following topics:

• Learning Styles and their Impact of Teaching International Students: What Students say about themselves and their teacher - a report on research led by Carolina Valiente of London South Bank University
• Teaching International Students: Exploring Academic Staff Attitudes - a session led by Jacqueline Lynch from University of Westminster
• English for Academic Purposes: A Case Study from York by Philip Warwick, University of York
• Academic Business Writing - presented Diane Schmitt of the Language Centre at Nottingham Trent University

As part of her session on Academic Staff Attitudes Jacqueline Lynch involved all delegates in discussion groups and asked them to consider the following questions:

  • Do you have a policy on internationalisation of the curriculum
  • What are the issues in learning and teaching for international students?
  • Please share examples of good practice from your own teaching practice
