The BMAF Network serves to help all discipline groups and staff in this field to provide the best possible learning experience for students undertaking higher education

As educators a major goal of our work has been to improve students’ ability to synthesise academic material in their assessed work.
This applies at both Undergraduate and Masters’ level where students have to demonstrate ‘critical reading’ to meet the requirements of degree-level work. The aim of this workshop is to demonstrate how to encourage students to engage with academic literature and to develop their critical reading skills. It will be run by Sarah Quinton and Teresa Smallbone who will use material based on their recently published book "Postgraduate Research in Business: a critical guide" (London: Sage 2006), and other material developed over many years of teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Oxford Brookes Business School. While the workshop will be of particular interest to academics supervising UG and PG dissertations, it is also relevant to anyone who has ever had to explain how to ‘do critical reading’ as part of an assignment. The workshop consists of three interactive sessions which will include presentations, group discussions, opportunities for informal networking and material to take away. There is no charge for this event. If you would like to reserve a place at the workshop, please email us with your name, institution and telephone number.
