Description
*** 22/11/2010 - This workshop has now been cancelled ***
Please note that most universities will pay for you to attend from their staff development budgets.
Many recently appointed teachers of architecture are now required to undertake an institutional teacher training course. This workshop, specifically aimed at new academic staff teaching architecture, will complement institutional courses by providing a subject specific element that:
- provides a unique opportunity to interact with other teachers of architecture who are also undergoing their initial training
- provides a degree of subject specific expertise and experience in design studio teaching that is not found in generic university courses
- provides an opportunity for lecturers to relate the issues covered in their
university supported courses to architecture.
The workshop will place an emphasis on participants reflecting upon their own experiences in design studio teaching and comparing this to that of other new teachers of architecture, as well as considering other good teaching and learning practices. The topics covered in the workshop will include:
- The Design Project and Studio Teaching: writing briefs, structuring and running a design project
- Assessment: the crit, giving feedback and responding to student diversity
- Integrating design studio teaching with other areas of the curriculum.
Speakers include:
- Rachel Sara, University of the West of England
- Hilaire Graham, University College for the Creative Arts
- Andrew Roberts, CEBE
