CEBE Resource Packs for New Teachers of Architecture

The pack is intended to complement materials presented at institutional 'new lecturers' courses by providing a subject specific focus on the topics commonly covered.

CEBE Transactions included in Scopus

CEBE Transactions has been accepted for inclusion in Scopus, in recognition of its value as an educational journal and its commendable citation record. The SciVerse Scopus abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed research literature and quality web sources covers over 18,500 titles from more than 5,000 publishers.

AESOP Excellence in Teaching Prize: Deadline 15th May 2011

The Association of European Schools of Planning’s award recognises and encourages excellence in teaching. CEBE Transactions will publish an article on the pedagogical approach of the prize winning module.

Built Environment Higher Education: State of the Nation

The State of the Nation project was conducted by CEBE in collaboration with the Council of Heads of the Built Environment (CHOBE).
The State of the Nation project was originated primarily to examine the feasibility of forming a longitudinal picture of built environment provision by higher education across the United Kingdom (UK). This report therefore reflects baselines for potential longitudinal exercises, and also shows a picture of the UK’s built environment higher education that has never been fully seen before.

Call for Bids for Teaching Development Grants

The Higher Education Academy is making available £315,000 for individual grant scheme bids with a maximum of £7,000 per project. The themes for this call are internationalisation and employability and the closing date for bids is 15th June 2011.

CEBE Funding for National Student Survey Focus Groups

Applications are invited from built environment schools and departments for CEBE funding to conduct student focus groups to gain a better understanding of the results of the National Student Survey (NSS). Research undertaken by the Centre to date suggests that raw results from the NSS should not always be taken at face value, particularly if being used to inform future course development. Focus groups with students can therefore be an excellent way to gain an understanding of what the NSS results really mean.

It enables the sharing of differing approaches, so encouraging the creative development of teaching practice and the broadening of horizons. The Centre's exchange programme has to date been piloted with architectural studio teachers but for the coming academic year we would like to broaden applications to include all built environment subjects.

Subject Centre funding to be discontinued

The Higher Education Academy (HEA) has been considering its future focus and restructuring options following a reduction in budget, the Browne Review and the Comprehensive Spending Review. On Wednesday, 10th November 2010, the Academy Board clarified the future of the HEA’s work at discipline level and CEBE is sorry to announce the decision that all Subject Centres will be phased out by summer 2012. From 2012, work at discipline level will be led and coordinated centrally (from a restructured Higher Education Academy office in York) and delivered with the support of a network of associates, including subject experts, drawn from academic staff based in or linked to a wide range of higher education institutions.

Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment – Review of Content and Structure

On behalf of the Diploma Development Steering Group for the Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment (CBE) you are invited to help them in their review of the current content and structure for the CBE Diploma. Revised Subject Benchmark Statement for Architecture

This is a major revision to the subject benchmark statement for Architecture, published in 2000. The 2000 benchmark statement covered the first degree only (known as Part 1). The 2010 benchmark statement is expanded to include a description of the second stage of architecture education (known as Part 2). Details of the third and final stage of qualification as an architect (the professional examination, known as Part 3) are included in an appendix to the statement (Appendix 3). The educational standards published in the subject benchmark statement now reflect the professional requirements set by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

Academy Scotland Travel Fund 2010-11

Academy Scotland is making available travel funds for academic staff in Scottish HEIs to attend Subject Centre and HEA events run outside of Scotland.
