Personal and Professional Development Planning and Competency Assessment

Professional Development Planning

HE teachers use a variety of strategies to encourage students to reflect upon and evaluate their own learning experiences and plan for their own development. The term Personal Development Planning (PDP) is being used to describe this process. Universities UK, the Standing Conference of Principles, the Quality Assurance Agency and the Higher Education Academy York have produced guidelines to promote this as a core educational process.

Personal Development Planning helps student to learn, increases their awareness of skills, values, attitudes and competencies and thus has also a positive impact and a potential to enhance students' employability.
