Collecting Student Feedback

Student feedback refers to the process by which students are asked to reflect upon the learning process that they are experiencing or have experienced in order to assist in the further development of lecturers’ teaching and their own learning. Typically this is done through the administration of end of year questionnaires and for graduating students, the National Student Survey. There are however also benefits in collecting feedback from students during a course. Formative evaluation of this type allows lecturers to get an immediate understanding of the learning that is taking place amongst their students, and to modify their practice if necessary.

Many of the materials provided here were generated as part of a collaborative project between the subject centres for the Built Environment (CEBE), Education, Art, Design and Media and Biosciences, looking at ways in which formative evaluation can be implemented within teaching.
