Team Working

Employers place great emphasis on a large portfolio of life skills that they expect new recruits to bring to their organisation from the outset. Key and often quoted amongst these, is the ability to be a ‘team player’. There is an expectation that students will have acquired this skill during their degree programme, but it is a skill that needs to be engendered and developed over time, preferably by embedding experiential opportunities into students’ programme of study. The educational benefits of students working cooperatively in groups are well recognised in directly enhancing learning. The design of assessment is however central to capturing the benefits of group work and avoiding its pitfalls.

These pages provide a range of materials designed to be of practical use in helping students to develop 'teamwork skills' and to work creatively and effectively on group projects as part of their academic work.
