Since Dr Heather Skinner’s appointment to the full-time faculty of Glamorgan Business School in 2001, she continues to deliver an exceptional student experience and to research and produce exceptional levels of output.  This including two awards for ‘Best Overall Paper’ and two further awards for ‘Paper in Track’ at international conferences, and many publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Heather has an excellent reputation as an effective, committed, energetic, enthusiastic, and creative teacher, passionate about her areas of expertise, and able to engender a passion for learning in others. Her scholarly activities are underpinned by the high level and quality of her teaching, ability to engage students with both the subject matter and the nature of scholarly enquiry, and commitment to developing the skills required of graduates by industry. Her approach is designed to ensure students have the ability to think critically about their actions, are able to generate creative solutions to marketing problems, and, when in a management role, will be able to evaluate the impact of potential courses of action on their organisation and its stakeholders.

Student feedback highlights not only Heather’s enthusiasm and innovative delivery approach, but also that students recognise the innovative way she approaches the subject content, embedding a critical and relevant approach to the subject.

Colleagues in the University’s Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching say that Heather has ‘played a significant part in enhancing learning and teaching across the University’, and within the Business School it is recognised that her ‘research informed knowledge without question is boosting the relevance and interest in the marketing subject area’.

Heather is recognised as an expert in her academic field of place marketing while continuing to take an active interest in pedagogy as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, motivating and encouraging colleagues to strive for continuous improvement of the student experience.
