Academy Scotland debate

This year’s Academy Scotland debate will be held on Wednesday 24 June at Glasgow Caledonian University. The motion will be “This house believes that the 50 minute lecture is a good form of teaching”.

The debate will be preceded by a keynote address by Professor Paul Maharg from the Glasgow Graduate School of Law, University of Strathclyde, and Senior Fellow of the Academy. There will also be a marketplace with resources from the Academy available, and the debate will be followed by a wine reception.

The event is aimed at staff in a wide range of roles within Scottish HEIs, and there will be representatives from the Academy Subject Centres.

The provisional outline is:

3.30-4.30 Welcome, tea and coffee, Academy resource marketplace
4.30- 4.50 Keynote address: main issues facing higher education today (Professor Paul Maharg)
4.50-5.00 Questions
5.00-6.00 Debate
6.00-7.00 Wine reception
