Dispositions to Learn and Student Success

This seminar will draw on pilot research across HE in 2007/8and current HEFCE and Paul Hamyln funded research into student retention. The seminar will explore:
• The notions of the ‘strong’ and the ‘weak’ student in HE;
• Professional legitimacy in relation to student development in HE;
• Learning and teaching strategies for student success.
Quantitative research findings will be presented to describe relationships between dispositions to lean and student retention and achievement. Participants will discuss dispositions that have been shown to be problematic for the student group as a whole or for specific sub-groups.
