- Date: 27 Oct 2010
- Start Time: 10:45 am
- Location/venue: Allt-yr-yn Campus, Allt-yr-yn Avenue, Newport, Wales, NP20
This seminar is part of the Academy's Evidence-based Practice Seminar Series 2010 and is offered by the Higher Education Academy and its Business, Management, Accountancy and Finance Subject Centre, and the University of Wales, Newport. The seminar was due to be held on 9 June 2010, but will now take place on 27 October as part of the next phase of seminars.
This seminar will highlight the methodology and lessons learned from a two year project, funded by Graham Review monies, to enhance accessibility to bite-sized learning across Newport Business School for work-based learners. Focusing on leadership and management and informed by external market research of employer needs, gaps were identified in the current curriculum and learning provision which informed subsequent flexible learning curriculum developments using appropriate blends of learning approaches involving traditional and modern technologies.
The aim of the seminar:
- To identify key development themes in employer responsive learning informed from the methodology and lessons learned from a two year project.
The objectives of the seminar are to:
- discuss employer-focused market research
- enable discussion on case study examples within a flexible learning curriculum
- provide opportunities for those involved in flexible learning developments to link together to discuss potential collaborative opportunities.
Intended outcomes from the seminar:
- identification of challenges in employer responsive learning development cross-referenced with enablers (learning approaches, technology, curriculum, people)
- further development of communities of practice in employer responsive learning.
Intended audience:
- Academic, administrative and learning support staff from Universities and Colleges in the UK involved in employer responsive learning and curriculum innovations and associated continuing professional development.
Following the seminar, a briefing paper on “employer responsive learning” will be developed with associated links to project webpages and podcasts featuring student, staff and employer experiences.
