Beyond Borders: Challenging Assumptions and Expectations of Internationalisation

The symposium will provide good networking opportunities for both real and virtual participants to share ideas and explore different views of internationalisation and support for international students.

Professor Elspeth Jones, International Dean and Professor of the Internationalisation of Higher Education and Co-Director of CAPRI (Centre for Academic Practice and Research into Internationalisation) and Helen O’Shea, International Education Officer at NUS Scotland will be delivering stimulating presentations on key issues. The event promises to deepen our understanding of the complex issues surrounding internationalisation and to highlight the key opportunities for Scottish HEIs in the global arena.

The symposium will investigate key themes of internationalisation under the following headings:

 Embedding internationalization into the curriculum
 Impact on teaching methods
 Use of new technologies
 Widening access, e.g. distance learning
 Connecting lecturers’ and students’ expectations and assumptions
