This workshop was fully booked ahead of time, with a waiting list, showing the popularity of the topic. Delegates were from a range of disciplines within STEM, but also outside STEM, including linguistics, business, early childhood development, and health sciences. They were also at various stages in their careers, ranging from PhD students, to mid career academics, from post 92 institutions as well as more research focussed institutions.
Although the workshop covered a range of material, it was not intended to cover in any depth the process of publication, or advice on how to structure pieces for journal submission, since there are other sources such as books available widely that cover this. However, one presentation did go into this aspect. Delegates were given the option to skip this in favour of other material (since there was too much to cover in the time) but they chose to hear it. Indeed, an exercise I designed at the start of the day to discover which parts would be of most interest to the particular audience, did identify a number of problems associated with this area, which was a surprise to me.
Several possible activities had been prepared, but only one used (the first one). This went down well and delegates seemed to find it enjoyable. The venue was pleasant and the host staff friendly and helpful. My only suggestion for improvement would be to allow more time to cover the material slower and perhaps include another activity.
