Social Sciences Conference: Ways of Knowing, Ways of Learning
- Date: 28 May 2012 - 29 May 2012
- Start Time: 01:00 pm
- Location/venue: Crowne Plaza Hotel, Liverpool, L31QW

This conference will provide the opportunity for the Social Science Community to come together to address the concerns and issues being generated by current developments to teaching and learning in the HE sector. To respond to these changes, and to improve the student experience on offer, the community needs to have an understanding of what constitutes effective practice in the Social Sciences, in terms of the diverse ways in which our students learn and apply that learning within the context of their everyday lives.
Through providing a space in which to communicate insights and examples from practice of how we can embed innovative and effective opportunities for student initiative and engagement, the conference will provide an environment in which both challenges can be discussed and possible solutions shared.

Come prepared to nanoteach!!
We will be running a nanoteach session before the conference dinner. Delegates to the conference are invited to share a successful teaching and learning idea in a 2 minute ‘nano’ presentation. You will be able to sign up for this in the run up to the conference, and also on the day. We will be asking delegates to vote for their favourite nanoteach. The presentation that receives the most votes will be offered a free place at the HEA Annual Conference in July and also £250 of book tokens. If you have any queries about the nanoteach or would like to register your interest in taking part, please email Kathy.Wright@heacademy.ac.uk .
Student photography competition
The HEA is looking for a photograph or digital image which captures the essence of what it means to study the social sciences. All entries will be displayed at the cluster conference, and delegates will be asked to vote on which photo they would like to win.
