Teaching Islamic Studies in Wales

  • Date: 11 May 2012
  • Location/venue: Aberystwyth University , Wales, SY23 3FE

Following on from the workshop held in May 2011, the Islamic Studies Network is holding a second cross-disciplinary workshop for those working in Islamic Studies and related disciplines at higher education institutions in Wales.

This event aims to bring together teachers of Islamic Studies from a wide range of disciplines (e.g. Theology and Religious Studies, History, Politics, Literature, Sociology, Anthropology, Law, Business and Finance), and is open to both specialists and non-specialists who teach on modules related to Islam. This will be an opportunity for practitioners to network, share practice, update colleagues on developments since the last workshop, and discuss region-specific issues in the teaching of Islamic Studies.  It will also be an occasion for participants to hear about some of the teaching resources currently being developed by colleagues in the sector.

Although the workshop is primarily aimed at those working in Islamic Studies in Wales, participants from other regions are also welcome to attend. PhD students are also welcome to attend, though they may also be interested in attending the Islamic Studies Network’s residential postgraduate workshop to be held in February 2012.

This workshop is free to attend for employees and postgraduates of both public and private higher education institutions. Please register using the online booking system when booking opens (shortly)
Travel bursaries of up to £100 are available for this event.
A draft programme will be available shortly.
