Become a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy

The Academy’s Professional Recognition Scheme offers individuals the opportunity to gain recognition as Fellow of The Higher Education Academy. This is appropriate if you have an academic role with substantial teaching commitment in Higher Education.
Fellowship of The Higher Education Academy recognises effectiveness in teaching and enhancing the student learning experience, combined with scholarship, research and/or other professional activities.

It is awarded to professionals who can demonstrate that they meet the criteria of Descriptor 2 of the UK Professional Standards Framework for teaching and supporting learning in higher education.

Typically, those likely to be at Descriptor 2 (D2) include:

  1. Early career academics
  2. Academic-related and/or support staff holding substantive teaching and learning responsibilities
  3. Experienced academics relatively new to UK higher education
  4. Staff with (sometimes significant) teaching-only responsibilities including, for example, within work-based settings
