Classics and the Classical World are fundamental to our culture and identity.
Once a universal European education, Classics is now re-inventing itself as a vibrant and diverse discipline that helps make sense of our present as well as the past. Today's Classics teachers cross disciplinary divides to bring new methods and insights to the subject, and engage with the latest thinking about teaching and learning.
Who are we?
Classics in the HCA Subject Centre (CSC) exists to help enhance teaching and learning in Classical Subjects, in the broadest sense, by providing support for established and intending teachers in Higher Education, Continuing Education and Further Education. The members of the CSC are practicing academics who deliver teaching and undertake research in Classics so we fully understand the challenges facing those in the profession.
What can Classics in the HCA Subject Centre do for you?
The most important thing about CSC is that it exists and runs for your benefit. Whether you are postgraduate looking to go into teaching, a new lecturer starting out in the profession, or a senior academic with plenty of experience in teaching, CSC aims to address your concerns. We offer advice, provide training events, and fund projects and networks to develop and exchange ideas and practice in Classics and Ancient History (all resources created by these activities are made available through this site). All of our work is driven by the demands of the subject community either in response to direct requests, event feedback, educational policy, or our own personal experience from working in the subject area. If you don't find what you are looking for here please get in touch with us and we will do what we can to help, from pointing you in the right direction to creating a new resource or event.
On our pages here you can find (among many other things):
Reports and guides on teaching practice and professional development

Employability in Classics Survey
Classics in the Subject Centre has commissioned a survey of Classics (and Classics-related) graduates from the last 10 years, and current students, in order to compile a report on their employment experience during and after university. The aim of the survey is to collect a range of useful information from Classics graduates, including the fields they work in after university, how the skills they gained in their degrees helped their career prospects, and how much the average Classics graduate earns. The initial survey will be followed up by a number of follow-up interviews which will be included in the final report.
The survey can be found at: http://classicssurvey.wordpress.com/
