Classics

Funding

Classics in the HCA Subject Centre (CSC) funds three types of activities:

Small Grants, Local Networks, and Themed Networks. CSC is in a position to offer a small number of Small Grants (usually of £500-£2,000) to develop learning and teaching projects or Networks of practitioners that are specific to Classics. While transferability is a criterion by which all HCA funding is awarded, in this case it is the relevance and usefulness to other classics teachers/classics departments that is considered. Activities relating to the award must take place in the academic year 2008-09, although a writing up period that extends to the 31st August 2009 is factored into the one-year award. The deadline for applications is 26th August 2008. Notification of the results will be on Monday 1st September. Application forms, together with further details, are available on the appropriate pages.

Other forms of support for training workshops and Away Days range from CSC providing forums for the presentation of work on teaching and learning (e.g. CA panels, poster sessions and one day events), to assisting with event publicity, to arranging or suggesting speakers or facilitators (e.g. on language teaching, inclusivity, the research-teaching nexus etc.). CSC is happy to consider collaborative/co-operative ventures.
