Form a Network

Classics Subject Centre (CSC) funds two types of Networks - Local and Themed...

Local Network

CSC proposes to help establish new Local Networks of Classical departments or other groupings of Classical teachers in HE to facilitate activities, such as training of graduate students/graduate teachers/new staff, which would be less viable for departments in isolation. Networks might also be used for departments to meet and discuss teaching and learning issues generated by internal reviews and/or the QAA, or in the process of designing new degree programmes.

CSC will offer kick-start funding to a limited number of Local Networks each year, and welcomes expressions of interest, indicating what level of funding might be needed. Support for Local Networks is likely to be in the region of £300.

Themed Network

CSC proposes to establish a limited number of Themed Networks. The purpose of Themed Networks is to provide a creative forum for specialist areas and interests within the discipline, with demonstrable relevance to issues concerning Teaching and Learning. This might involve an area that is of its nature interdisciplinary, or alternatively one where approaches and practice from other disciplines could be engaged with. Networks might also be concerned with research into pedagogy in the Classics discipline, or the incorporation of transferable skills into teaching in a particular specialist area. Applications will be assessed on criteria including their potential for the encouragement and dissemination of new thinking and creativity across the subject area.

Support for Themed Networks will typically be in the region of £500-1,000 (depending upon the extent to which tangible outcomes can be shared). Such funding should be considered as kick-start funding, although underspend may be re-allocated to support future events and Small Grant funding awarded for the production of Teaching Materials or Briefing Papers.
