Employability

Employability is an issue which HE needs to address across the board and one which appears, at least initially, difficult for non-vocational subjects. This page provides links to materials on the employability of classicists (particularly in terms of their transferrable skills and transferrable aspects of their disciplinary skills), recommendations on enhancing these aspects of classics degrees, an example of embedding employability with a classics programme and a diagnostic tool to surface aspects relevant to the employability agenda which are already present within programmes and modules.

This page gathers material of particular use and interest to classicists. Further material relating to employability can be found on the HCA Employability page.

Current News

Classics in the Subject Centre has commissioned a survey of Classics (and Classics-related) graduates from the last 10 years, and current students, in order to compile a report on their employment experience during and after university. The aim of the survey is to collect a range of useful information from Classics graduates, including the fields they work in after university, how the skills they gained in their degrees helped their career prospects, and how much the average Classics graduate earns. The initial survey will be followed up by a number of follow-up interviews which will be included in the final report.

The survey can be found at: http://classicssurvey.wordpress.com/
