Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

CPD is a concern for Classics Subject Centre (CSC) and prompts most of our activity, which is informed by the Professional Standards Framework. While our efforts are focused on developing the teacher-aspect of practitioners throughout their careers with an emphasis on subject-specificity, we are particularly concerned with PFF (Preparing Future Faculty) and to support those who do not qualify for HEI support through Staff Development Units or Postgraduate Certificate programmes - Graduate Teaching Assistants, Postgraduates who teach, short-term contract and part-time staff. CSC's position and support (2006-2009) are outlined in CUCD Bulletin 36 (2007) 8-12, an issue devoted to non-permanent members of staff; it is best read alongside the CUCD 'protocol on temporary academic staff' (approved by CUCD Standing Committee in February 2008).

However, all staff are welcome to all our events and support is offered to those developing careers as academics through our publication opportunities, distillation of policies affecting HE (see the Policy pages, e.g.) and those students who enter HE (due e.g. to changes in examination board syllabi at 14-19), information and resources to assist Personal Tutors and much more. Much of this information is available in the generic areas of the site but CSC's aim is to have appropriate sources of up-to-date information on the site and to provide them with discipline-specific analysis. To this end CSC and archaeology are undertaking a major project on the implications of the bologna process and are happy to respond to queries from individuals and departments regarding issues from the potential of the Asset Languages framework to facilitating Away Days on the Research-Teaching Nexus.
