Round 5 teaching Development Grant

Exploring the value of collaborative research to apprentice historians.

The project aims to discover whether group research provides additional opportunities to extend and engage students across the ability range and enhances students’ skills in relation to research, and whether the various elements of group research offer an effective strategy for assessing student attainment. Questionnaires will explore attitudes and expectations of students and staff regarding learning opportunities, benefits and challenges. Group log books will be analysed to with regard to the dynamics of group interaction, the effectiveness of peer and staff support, the relation to marks attained by students, and general engagement with research and historical debate in relation to this module
