Relevant and Accessible Statistics for Archaeologists

Status: complete

Funding Initiative: Teaching development fund/mini projects

Description

Round 5 Teaching Development Grant

Six worked examples have been created to demonstrate the use of statistical thinking and techniques to elucidate real archaeological problems.

Each example demonstrates:

* The relevance of a particular technique to archaeological problems,

* How to use the technique, using widely available software,

* Statistical interpretation of the outcomes,

* Issues that arise in their archaeological interpretation.

For a full list of examples please see the report. The examples have been re-written in a user-friendly narrative style as Excel workbooks (.xls files) which are also available for download.

An introductory text and reading list (the wrapper) has been written in PowerPoint by the Project Leader. It discusses data types, attempts to guide students towards the appropriate statistical technique for their problems, and provides links into the worked examples.
