Liaison Officers
Liaison Officers previously worked for the Network on a part-time basis, alongside teaching commitments within their subject areas. There were four liaison officers covering the four subject areas of Hospitality, Leisure, Sport and Tourism. These posts were discontinued in 2010.
Lyn Bibbings, Liaison Officer - Tourism
Lyn was responsible for liaising with all institutions, departments, subject associations and individuals with a tourism interest. She has been Undergraduate Programme Director for Tourism for the last four years and is researching student perceptions of learning and integrating learning and assessment strategies.
John Buswell, Liaison Officer - Leisure
John Buswell taught at the School of Leisure, Tourism and Hospitality Management and the Sports Research Unit at the University of Gloucestershire. Before moving to the College in 1980 he worked in teaching and in local authority leisure provision as a Sports Officer. At Cheltenham he has been Course Leader for degrees in Recreation Studies and Leisure Management and MA courses in Sports Development and Leisure & Tourism Management. He is currently Vice-Chair of the Leisure Education & Training Panel of the Institute of Leisure & Amenity Management (ILAM) and chaired a working group that has redesigned its Professional Qualifications Scheme between 1997 and 2000. He has research interests and publications in service quality in sport and leisure, sports management and multi-agency sport and leisure provision.
Maureen Brookes, Liaison Officer - Hospitality
Dr Maureen Brookes is a Principal Lecturer in Marketing and Business Futures Coordinator at Oxford Brookes University Business School. She sits on the Executive Committee for CHME, the UK's Council for Hospitality Management Education and on the Board of Directors for the EuroCHRIE as UK Area Consultant. Maureen is also a Director of Oxford Gastronomica, a specialist centre for the study of food, drink and culture. She has researched and published within the fields of internationalisation, franchising and market entry strategies of service organisations. Pedagogic research and publications have encompassed quality management, podcasting, and the internationalisation and personalisation of higher education.
Richard Tong, Sport and Exercise Sciences Advisor
Richard has studied and worked at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, Loughborough University and Brunel University gaining qualifications in Sports Science at undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD level. He is the Director of Learning and Teaching/Deputy Dean in the School of Sport, PE and Recreation at UWIC. He has been a BASES Accredited Physiologist for over ten years and has over fifteen years experience of teaching physiology in Higher Education. His recent career has led him into Learning and Teaching, which includes working for the QAA both as a subject reviewer and Institutional Auditor.
