National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS)

The National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS) was launched in 2000 by the Higher
Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and the Department for Employment and
Learning (DEL) in Northern Ireland. Now managed by the Higher Education Academy, it is
part of an overall programme to raise the status of learning and teaching in higher
education, and recognises and rewards excellence in supporting student learning.

 

National Teaching Fellows in the HLST subject areas include/have included:

Dr Philip Vickerman

Philip is Head of Research for Physical Education, Sport, Dance and Outdoor Education in the Faculty of Education, Community and Leisure. He was awarded the NTF in 2005. Philip's research interests focus around the training of Physical Education teachers for the inclusion of children with special educational needs. Colin Beard

Colin is a National Teaching Fellow (2005) based in the Faculty of Organisation and Leadership at Sheffield Hallam University, he is also an HR consultant. He is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and a Member of The Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and The Institute for Outdoor Learning. Further details on Colin are available to view at the Higher Education Academy website.

 

Ian Pickup

Ian was awarded his National Teaching Fellowship in 2007. He is the Director of Sport and Wellbeing at Roehampton University. As Director of Sport & Wellbeing, Ian is leading developments across the University, with specific objectives in the areas of sports performance, community engagement, physical activity and sports facility development. Professor Tim Cable

Professor Tim Cable is Director at the School of Sport and Exercise Science and Professor of Exercise Physiology at Liverpool John Moores University. He is also one of the Directors of the University's Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). Dr Loykie Loïc Lominé

Loykie is Programme Director of an MA in Cultural and Arts Management at the University of Winchester. he is also responsible for enterprise education across the institution, teaching hundreds of students how to work freelance or set up their own business. He has an MA in the Sociology and Anthropology of Travel and Tourism, an MSc in Tourism Management and a BSc (Hons) in Hotel Management. Mr Graham Berridge

Graham is Senior Lecturer in Events Management at Thames Valley University. He is the founder member of the Association of Events Management Education (AEME) and the Event Design Research Network (EDRN). In 2008 he was awarded a Research in Teaching Excellence (RiTE) sabbatical to research the practices of bidding and pitching for event contracts. In 2009 he was awarded a Work-based Learning Fellowship to develop a continuous personal and professional development course in event training. Professor Roger Eston

Professor Roger Eston is head of the University of Exeter's School of Sport and Health Sciences which has been rated in the top three for the quality of student learning experience in the National Student Survey. Previously Roger was Professor and Head of Sports Science at Bangor University, during which time the School recieved the highest accolade ('exemplary') for teaching and learning in the QAA audit. Dr Derek Peters

Dr Derek Peters is a Principal Lecturer in the School of Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Worcester. He has an intense, personal motivation to be highly supportive, empathetic and a positive role model while also inspiring students to challenge their own conceptions of learning and build self belief and personal achievement by transforming their own ways of thinking. Sarah Nixon

Richard Tong

Professor Richard Tong is Director of Learning and Teaching/Deputy Dean at UWIC and has previously acted as Liaison Officer for HLST as well as contributing on numerous occasions to HLST events and publications.
