Description

A Westminster Briefing hosted by the House Magazine.

The morning of this Policy and Practice Briefing will provide delegates a forum to be informed on and discuss the progress of the Tourism Strategy and it’s impact across the UK. Delegates will consider the best way to move forward with marketing, funding and skills strategies in the run up to the games and beyond.

The afternoon will investigate successful examples at home and abroad of tourism marketing and promotion as potential best practice models in the run up to 2012, as well as case studies of locally sustainable tourism. Delegates will gain ideas and insights to take back to their organisations and roles.

Throughout the day delegates will have the chance to engage with the panel, investigating key issues such as:

  • Investigating the progress of plans to maximise the impacts and benefits of the Olympics on the tourism industry throughout the UK
  • How effective is cross departmental coordination on tourism? Investigating the role of the Tourism Advisory Council
  • Building effective funding models for tourism development and marketing – how best to align national, regional and local funding?
  • How can the tourism industry build more effective self promotion capabilities both nationally and internationally?
  • How can the industry best develop and enhance its skills base, particularly with a view to the Olympics?
  • How to move forward with building a sustainable tourism industry for communities and the environment?
  • Considering the need for robust and wide ranging statistical analysis of tourism in the UK
