External Examining & Register of External Examiners

Update

Unfortunately we have been informed that under the newly-restructured Higher Education Academy the HLST External Examiners Register will no longer be supported. We are no longer excepting new examiners into the register, but will still be able to answer examiner requests until the end of the transition period (31st December 2011).

Background

Have you ever noticed that when it comes to finding a new External Examiner or validation panel member for one of your programmes, the same names keep coming up? Or are you interested in taking on an External Examiner role within the hospitality, leisure, sport and tourism subject areas, but are not sure how to get started?

If so, we might be able to help.

The Hospitality, Leisure, Sport & Tourism Network has compiled a register of UK-based individuals interested in taking on an External Examiner or validation panel member role in our subject areas. This may include those who have previously, or are currently, acting as external examiners or validation panel members, or those who have not undertaken this role before.

This information is used to provide course managers who are looking for new External Examiners or validation panel members with a list of possible candidates - including individuals that they may not have considered via their personal or department's contacts.

To obtain a list of External Examiners

Simply email William Ross, providing the following information:

  • Your name, job title and institution
  • The subject area(s) (eg, Hospitality Management, Sport & Exercise Science) and level(s) (eg, undergraduate, masters) for which an External Examiner or validation panel member is required
  • Any departmental or institutional requirements for External Examiners or validation panel member, eg whether the individual must have previous experience of external examining

The Hospitality, Leisure, Sport & Tourism Network is offering this service free of charge to subject departments in the UK with a view to extending opportunities across institutions. However, it will make no assessment of the suitability of individual candidates, providing only contact details to enable further discussion.
