The Hospitality, Leisure, Sport & Tourism Network aims to encourage and broker the sharing of good learning and teaching practice across our subject areas of UK higher education.

As the student population diversifies more varied approaches to learning, teaching and assessment are required.

The project aimed to empower lecturers to develop a more diverse range of innovative assessments to allow students to work in creative, non-written or partly written formats. The focus of this project was to develop inclusive modes of assessment paying particular attention to the needs of dyslexic students as the largest percentage of students with disabilities in higher education. The project built on previous work and developed a diverse range of assessments enabling students to demonstrate their achievement of learning outcomes.
On the TLC website resources for lecturers include a variety of reflective case studies, divided into oral, practical, visual and complex modes. These modes contain assessments such as interviews, presentations, vivas, coaching, posters, videos, annotated albums and running live events. Links are made through the case studies to underpinning pedagogic theory. The TLC project team welcomed feedback from lecturers using the case studies and encouraged lecturers to contribute their own examples of innovative assessment using a TLC case study template. Payments were available to lecturers willing to provide such resources.
