Blended Learning

Blended learning is a flexible approach to delivery that combines both online and face-to-face teaching/learning methods.

The University of Wolverhampton website provides an extensive introduction to the potential uses and benefits of blended learning:

Examples of the potential benefits of blended learning at the University of Wolvehampton include:

  • Providing course material online to provide opportunities to have 24/7 access to all learning content, and to ensure equality of access;
  • Regular formative assessment with feedback, to give students opportunities to gauge their progress against the learning outcomes, to receive supporting feedback on this progress, and for staff to have information on student progress;
  • Create, deliver and report on computerised assessments, interactive whiteboards or blogs, to provide students with opportunities to participate in, and engage with interactive learning opportunities in face-to-face learning sessions;
  • Enabling students to use the forum or wiki within WOLF to build a body of knowledge, a chance for students to use asynchronous collaborative learning which extends face-to-face learning, creating supportive learning networks, managed by learners at a time and place best suited to their needs;
  • Using PebblePad to plan personal development leading into action plans, providing opportunities for students to understand better their learning process, act on feedback as well as collecting evidence on achievement to enhance learners employability;
  • Submitting all appropriate assessments through WOLF or PebblePad as an opportunity to save time and paper, and provide feedback quickly to each learner’ (www.wlv.ac.uk/default.aspx?page=19735).
