Credit Level Descriptors for HE Qualifications

Credit level descriptors provide a standardised framework to represent learning achieved whether this learning takes place in formal education or in the workplace.

When designing courses it is necessary to be aware of the credit level descriptors adopted by your institution in addition to the requirements of the QAA Academic Infrastructure, which includes the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications and the Subject Benchmark Statement. In combination these describe the characteristics and context for the course, and against these learning outcomes and assessment criteria can be developed for the achievement of learning at an appropriate level. (In Scotland the credit and qualification levels and frameworks are combined).

Glossary

This useful glossary on the Southern England Consortium for Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SEEC) website explains the terms associated with academic credit in learning.
