Images in Tourism Education

A project funded by HLST developed case study materials to support the use of images in tourism education. This was on the premise that images can enhance learning by illustrating concepts and providing visual memory cues.

A series of case studies provide examples of teaching methods that have been tried and have worked well with students in different institutions:

  1. Using images to improve concept learning
  2. Humorous images to develop critical thinking
  3. Images to enhance student ability to identify ethical issues
  4. Conceptual maps to develop research projects
  5. Destination image analysis for tourism marketing
  6. Multiple-perspective analysis of images

A series of learning objects (PowerPoint presentations with text, images and sound) demonstrate how images can be used to stimulate thinking and create an interactive learning dialogue:

  1. Using images to improve concept learning
  2. Humorous images to develop critical thinking
  3. Images to enhance student ability to identify ethical issues
  4. Destination image analysis for tourism marketing
  5. Multiple-perspective analysis of images
  6. Climate change
  7. Events and festivals

Details of the project can be seen at the HEA Website.
