The Hospitality, Leisure, Sport & Tourism Network aims to encourage and broker the sharing of good learning and teaching practice across our subject areas of UK higher education.

Internationalisation occupies a prominent place on HE agendas and presents many challenges. HE is an important medium for cross-border flows of knowledge and people; international students are an important market for universities and universities are increasingly required to produce graduates capable of working in the ‘global village'.
The Higher Education Academy has identified priority areas in internationalisation as being:
These priorities are also appropriate to HLST subject areas.
For those involved in teaching programmes a key area of concern will relate to developing global perspectives and ethics within the curriculum. The are three key drivers of this interest in developing global perspectives:
HLST
The HLST Network in conjunction with the BMAF Subject Centre published a book on Enhancing Internationalisation in our ‘Enhancing Series'. This contains case study examples of embedding internationalisation within the curriculum.
The Higher Education Academy
An extensive range of resources are available via the ‘supporting learning' section of the Higher Education Academy website. These include a range of publications, on the Bologna process, government policy and case study examples in addition to links to other projects websites and organisations (see the ITALIS Project for example)
UK Council for International Student Affairs
UKCISA provides advice for international students, but also extensive resources of interest to staff regarding provision of support for international students.
Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies
The Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies (LLAS) has produced a useful set of information relating to teaching international students, this can be accessed on-line:
