The Hospitality, Leisure, Sport & Tourism Network aims to encourage and broker the sharing of good learning and teaching practice across our subject areas of UK higher education.

Learning spaces have an impact on and can shape the learning that takes place within them. It may be that learning spaces in universities are not keeping pace with changes in both university teaching (such as a reduction in contact teaching time and the undertaking of more work by students through self directed study outside the classroom), or more broadly within society, for example through opportunities offered by social media.
A chapter in the HLST Enhancing Book Series ‘Enhancing Student Centred Learning in Business and Management, Hospitality, Leisure, Sport and Tourism’ provides a good introductory discussion on developments in learning spaces: ‘Space to Learn? Learning Environments in Higher Education'.
The Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) has published a booklet ‘Designing spaces for effective learning’ which can be downloaded from their site; they also provide further links exploring technology rich learning environments.
The Reinvention Centre CETL has investigated learning space and provides further resources and examples of current developments.
EDUCAUSE provides an e-book with a broad range of information on learning spaces and case study examples.
