Lifelong Learning

The Learning and Skills Improvement Service suggests lifelong learning ‘..implies a learning process that continues throughout life, according to the needs of people at different stages of their lifecycle/life span, sometimes described as learning 'from cradle to grave'.

Engaging the population in lifelong learning in order to increase productivity and competitiveness is a goal for many national governments on a global basis.

The Centre for Recording Achievement (CRA) is a national organisation which aims to ‘promote the awareness of recording achievement and action planning processes as an important element in improving learning and progression throughout the world of education, training and employment'.

Although aimed at all types of education, the Skills for Life section of the Excellence Gateway website of the Learning and Skills Improvement Service contain a wealth of information.

Lifelong Learning UK is the Sector Skills Council responsible for the professional development of staff working in the UK lifelong learning sector, in the areas of career guidance, further education, higher education, community learning and development, work-based learning, libraries, archives and information services.
