Open Educational Resources

JISC Open Educational Resources Projects
Between April 2009 and April 2010, JISC and the HEAcademy are supporting pilot projects and activities that support the open release of learning resources; for free use and repurposing worldwide. This pilot programme is intended to inform a larger programme covering a significant portion of the HE Sector. Details of all the projects currently being funded can be found at the JISC OER web page.

In September 2011 JISC published a report 'The Value of Reuse of Open Educational Resources' that provides an overview of Open Educational Resources, including what they are, how they are chosen and used in teaching.

Connexions describes itself as a place to share educational material make of small knowledge chunks called modules that can be organized as courses, books or reports. Once registered authors can create and collaborate on projects and share them with the world using Creative Commons licenses.

The Flatworld Knowledge website provides a source of peer-reviewed online books and learning materials. These materials are open source and the website allows users to customise books online to make them more suitable for purpose, and store them in online reading lists for students to access.

Jorum is a free online service providing access to teaching and learning resources, for teaching and support staff in UK Further and Higher Education Institutions.

Intute is a JISC-funded website created by a consortium of seven universities, working together with a host of partners. The website allows users to search for education resources or browse for web resources by subject.

HLST Resources:

Peter Jarrett has produced for HLST a Position Paper that examines the delivery of Open Educational Resources through a specific subject-cloud. The position paper looks at current technological developments and the kinds of learning experiences and opportunities which are likely to evolve. He sees technology providing the link between learners, education and employers within a specific subject context, in a "subject-specific cloud".
