HLST and the Olympic and Paralympic Games
London's hosting of the 30th Olympiad in 2012 provides an opportunity to raise the profile of the subjects in our Network.
Our courses provide the professional skills, knowledge and understanding which are essential for success in such a multifaceted and complex event. Below are examples of how our subject areas will contribute to the Olympics and Paralympics:
- Sciences that underpin the preparation of elite athletes for world class performance;
- the coaching and sports management capacity required to support growing participation in sport;
- the provision of facilities and opportunities for active leisure; understanding the needs of tourists;
- travel and tourism management skills essential for the provision of successful events;
- high quality hospitality facilities and services;
- our close working relationships with industry and employers and
- our well established multicultural awareness and international outlook.
We can therefore rightly claim to be the subjects for the Olympics and Paralympics!
