Student Competition Winners
The prize presentation for the HLST Student Competition took place on Tuesday 22 June at Middlesex University.
The competition was won by a team of five students from Middlesex: Emma Lampard, Sophia Hadjicosti, Dipak Vaghjiani, Mishaal Al-Moften and Rojob Monsour Ali.

The competition challenged students to design a logo and slogan that would represent the meaning of the Olympic and Paralympic Games for young people. The winning entry took inspiration from the Apple, Google Chrome and Burger King logos, accompanied by the slogan 'Dare to Dream'.
The prize of £350 was presented by HLST Director Clive Robertson who complimented the winning entry's 'excellent design and clear rationale'. Download the Winning Entry.

Learning Legacies on Facebook
We have started a Facebook group to allow students to share and discuss their ideas about the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics.
The group '2,012 Students' aims to reach 2,012 members in an Olympic record time..and then try to beat it for next 2,012!
Student Competition

A team of students from Middlesex University have won the HLST Student Competition 2010.
The competition challenged students to design a new symbol/logo and a one line slogan representing the meaning of the Olympic and Paralympic Games for young people today.
The winning entry was created by a team of five BA Business Management students from Middlesex University: Emma Lampard, Sophia Hadjicosti, Dipak Vaghjiani, Mishaal Al-Moften and Rojob Monsour Ali.
Their logo took inspiration from the Apple, Google Chrome and Burger King logos and used the slogan 'Dare to Dream'.

Coubertin Awards Student Essay Competition
Ethics, Business and Sport
The 2010 Coubertin Student Essay Competition encourages teams of two to four students to collaborate on work to explore themes involving ethics, business and sport.
Suggested themes include:
- Social responsibility:
How can businesses learn from sport to fight against discrimination, exclusion and inequality? - Environmental impact:
Save Today, Save Tomorrow: Explore the related issues for businesses in following the Olympic footprint 'towards a one planet 2012’ - Reaching the global audience:
Celebrating diversity and bridging communities: Can businesses enhance cross-cultural communication following the Olympic example? - Code of conduct:
Should all students, like sportsmen, be made to take oaths to act ethically throughout their careers? How should this be enforced?
The competition has a first prize of £2000 for the winning student group and a second prize of £1000 for the runner up student group.
The deadline for entry is 30th June 2010.

HLST Student Conference
10 March 2010 - Bournemouth University
Organised by 2nd year Event management students from Bournemouth University with support from the members of the HLST Learning Legacies SIG, the HLST Student Conference brought together 44 student delegates from UK universities to explore the theme "Olympic and Paralympic Values: me, my course, my career".
The purpose of the conference was to explore the Olympic and Paralympic values and to look at their relevance to students, to courses of study, and to students future careers, as long lasting legacies of the London Games. The conference features the following speakers:
- Dr Darren Kenny OBE
Darren Kenny is a gold medal winning, world record holding member of the GB Paralympic and Devid Mellor Cycle Teams. After winning the National Disabled Circuit Championships and a silver medal on the track at Manchester he was invited to join Team GB. He currently holds all 5 track world records for his class. In Beijing he won 4 golds and 1 silver medal and he recently received a doctorate from Bournemouth University and becase an honorary doctor of arts. - Gareth Smith
Gareth Smith is the Further and Higher Education Adviser at LOCOG. He is also the head of Podium. His role at LOCOG is to maximise the engagement of both sectors with the Games across a number of areas, including the education programmes and the Cultural Olympiad. Gareth has extensive experience in student engagement after working aith a number of organisation, including the National Union of Students.

Dr Dikaia Chatziefstastiou is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology of Sport and Leisure at Canterbury Christ Church University. She is the inaugural winner of Coubertin Prize 2008 awarded by the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee and the International Olympic Committee, and her most recent work on Regional Games has also been funded by the IOC. Her current research interests include Japan and China's revived interests in the Olympic Movement, diffusion of Olympic sport throgh regional games, and a review of the evidence base for developing a health and physical activity participation legacy from the 2012 Olympic Games.

Sarah graduated from Bournemouth University in 2009 with a BA(Hons) in Communication and Media. She also has eight years experience in the hospitality industry, three of these being the head supervisor of a fine dining resturant. Sarah has gone on to be Team Dorset's 2012 legacy assistant. Team Dorset is about helping Dorset benefit from hosting the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Weymouth and Portland and leaving a significant legacy.
