Green Academy: Curricula for Tomorrow

  • Date: 15-11-2010

The Higher Education Academy’s Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Project is launching an exciting new change programme, in association with the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC) and the National Union of Students (NUS), to help institutions achieve sustainability in the curriculum goals. Although founded on a similar concept to our flagship change programme, Change Academy, its focus is developmental –specifically on ESD – and is being run as a pilot for this academic year

The context:

  • HE in the UK undergoing a period of significant change, unprecedented for a generation: public funding to be cut drastically, students to become increasingly consumer-focused, and the market to drive quality of provision
  • HE sector in need of rising to the sustainability challenge in more strategic and holistic ways and embedding sustainable development into the overall student experience. This includes learning, teaching and curricula – with the intention of ensuring future graduates are globally aware and responsible citizens in the 21st century
  • Employers demanding sustainably-literate graduates. Students demanding future-proof skills. UK Government’s vision for a new “green economy” presenting a range of opportunities and demands from the workforce
