HEA opens calls for new change programmes
- Date: 19-12-2011
The HEA has opened calls to three new change programmes to support learning and teaching in higher education.
Each of the new change programmes draws on the expertise gained through the highly successful Change Academy programme, launched in 2004 by the HEA in partnership with the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education.
The new discipline change programme is designed for departments or disciplines. It will support them to explore and address issues based on results from the National Students Survey (NSS) for their department or discipline. Participating teams will have the opportunity to plan a strategic change programme, tailored to their individual needs, which will make a real difference to their students’ learning experiences.
Each of the HEA’s four discipline clusters, Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, STEM and Health Sciences, will be running a discipline-focused change programme, and the closing date for bids is 13 February 2012.
Research commissioned by the HEA and carried out by the Genetics Education Networking for Innovation and Excellence (GENIE) CETL in 2009 found that academics believe teaching is not recognised to the same extent as research.
In addressing the findings of the research report, Reward and recognition in higher education: Institutional policies and their implementation, the HEA’s reward and recognition enhancement (RARE) change programme will focus on strategic approaches to the reward and recognition of staff involved in teaching and the support of learning.
Existing and emerging research evidence will form an important part of this change programme, and institutions will be supported in exploring how they might draw on the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) and the role of students in the recognition and reward of excellent teaching.
The closing date for bids to the RARE change programme is 18 January 2012.
The HEA’s employability change programme will be run in partnership with the Scottish Higher Education Employability Forum (SHEEF). It is designed to support Scottish HEIs in the development and implementation of student employability, employer engagement and entrepreneurship initiatives. The closing date for bids is 12 January 2012.
Details of all the HEA’s change programmes can be found in this guide.
