Description
Eighteen winners have been presented with prizes at the Higher Education Volunteering Awards 2008 at an awards luncheon for 200 guests at Manchester United Football Club.
The awards ceremony, hosted by TV presenter Jake Humphrey, was a celebration of the achievements of student and staff volunteers across the country.
Entries were received from universities and higher education colleges across England with over 750 volunteers being nominated by their peers and institutions. Over 9,000 people and potentially thousands more have benefited from the volunteering efforts of these nominees. The Volunteering Awards are funded by the Higher Education Academy.
Paul Ramsden, Chief Executive, Higher Education Academy commented: “The awards highlight the energy and commitment of staff and students in the sector in responding to the needs of others. These are people who have many demands on their time, yet who have found still more to help others achieve.
“This work helps not only those who directly benefit, but also those who take part as volunteers, through new experiences and friendships, and through a renewed sense of achievement. I hope that the award winners act as an inspiration to others to get involved.”
