Although disabled students have been entering higher education in greater numbers in the last decade, they remain under-represented and their experiences are variable depending on the institutions they attend. UK disability legislation requires institutions to anticipate and address the entitlements of disabled students within all policies and practices, as well as respond to their individual requirements as necessary.
We work with institutions, specialists and sector-wide organisations to promote disability equality and support the development of an inclusive culture within higher education institutions. We aim to enhance disabled students' learning experience in HE and encourage meaningful and ongoing opportunities for disabled students to be actively engaged across all institutional functions. A principal focus of our work is on the design and implementation of learning, teaching and assessment practices that uphold disabled students' entitlement to participate in all aspects of their study programmes and achieve success.
To this end, we are delivering a range of activities designed to support institutional change and development, as well as broker the dissemination of research evidence and learning across institutions.
This forms part of a programme of work to promote equity of access and success for all students.
