Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES)
The Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) ran from 1 March until 17 May 2011. 102 institutions participated in PRES 2011.
PRES is a unique service provided by the Higher Education Academy to all UK Higher Education Institutions. The survey collects feedback from current postgraduate research students in a systematic and user-friendly way. Results are anonymous, allowing comparison against the sector nationally and within benchmarking clubs, while ensuring that they are used for internal enhancement.
31,202 postgraduate research students from 102 institutions participated in PRES 2011 and the national results are available in the PRES 2011 report
The next Postgraduate Research Experience Survey will run in spring 2013. Institutions will be able to submit expressions of interest in participating from September. For more information on what is involved in running PRES, please see our What is PRES? leaflet.
Using PRES for Enhancement
The data collected by PRES is designed to inform enhancements to the student learning experience. With PRES running every other year, 2012 is a year for enhancement and institutions can use this time to drill down into their results, discuss them with students and plan enhancement activities.
In addition to delivering the PRES (and PTES) surveys to the sector, the Higher Education Academy also runs events on using student surveys (both undergraduate and postgraduate) for enhancement. Our flagship event is the annual Surveys for Enhancement Conference, taking place on 17 May 2012 in Nottingham. The call for contributions is open until 12 March and further details can be found at:

Information on further enhancement activities will be made available shortly.
