Equality-proofing the curriculum
This project will involve the application of expertise of colleagues from different University services - learning and teaching, student support services and human resources - in assisting academics in auditing and equality proofing the curriculum.
During the academic year 2005 - 2006, Anglia Ruskin University underwent significant curriculum change. During this period, all University modules were revised to meet new 15 or 30 credit ratings and there was the opportunity to specifically address curricula which may have presented barriers to some learners. However, as this major undertaking progressed, it became apparent that academic staff found it very difficult to address the curriculum from an inclusive teaching standpoint. Much externally produced guidance is generic, or allows for the identification of potential barriers, but without specific ideas for solutions.
This project aims to develop and embed inclusive practice within our University. This will be done through the development of appropriate training opportunities and guidance for staff and through a review of performance management criteria to establish how a commitment to meeting the needs of students with a range of learning needs might be demonstrated within individual job roles.
