Developing Inclusive Curricula in Higher Education

The project aims to improve the learning experience of disabled students by further embedding effective inclusive practices in learning, teaching, assessment and curriculum design throughout all academic departments within the University of Worcester (UW), including provision delivered in partner colleges

The aims of this project will be achieved through the implementation of an innovative staff development package which will form a core element of a wider disability equality staff development programme that addresses staff's needs in non teaching departments and services. In turn, the disability staff development programme will form an integral part of UW’s developing Continuing Professional Development framework by the inclusion of relevant learning outcomes in the CPD framework. Additionally, resources will be developed, trialled, and made available to staff to help them gain knowledge, skill and confidence in effecting changes to teaching/learning/assessment practices without compromising academic and/or professional body standards (now known as 'competence standards', DDA 2006). Over the course of the project, Worcester's existing SCIPS online resource (Strategies for Creating Inclusive Programmes of Study) will be extended to encompass all subject areas taught at UW, thus providing supplementary support for all teaching staff.
