HLST & BMAF Subject Centres, 2012: Learning Legacies
- Start date: 2010-09-01
- End date: 2011-08-31
- Status: complete
The proposal is led by the Hospitality, Leisure, Sport and Tourism (HLST) Subject Centre and the Business, Management, Accountancy and Finance (BMAF) Subject Centre. The project’s purpose is to identify resources which derive from all phases of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, from planning to post-Games evaluation of impact which can enhance curricula and student engagement with learning
Aims and Objectives
The aim of the project is to identify, develop as necessary, make accessible and promote Open Educational Resources which can support higher education programmes in engaging students in learning through opportunities afforded by the Olympic and Paralympic Games and their legacy.
Anticipated outputs and outcomes
The principal outcome would be enhanced enquiry by tutors and students into Olympic and Paralympic topics and issues and the further development of a community of practice in the Olympic legacy. This would occur through the open release and use and re-use of a range of resources including case studies, discussion starters and documents for research purposes.
Key Focus Areas
- Education for Sustainable Development (“greening” of practice is explicit in planning for the Games)
- Issues of equality of opportunity
- Specialist sectors of employment (particularly in this case events management)
- Achieving the benefits of transfer of resources developed within a particular subject context to wider subject applications
- Supporting HE provision in a FE setting (there is significant provision - more than 200 colleges in England alone - of HLST and BMAF subjects in FE).
