The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at De Montfort University has previous experience of releasing OERs releasing laboratory skills resources in the HEA Bioscience Phase 1 project. For our OER Phase 2 project we are focusing on Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia.
SCOOTER will release OERs to mark the 100th anniversary of the first scientific publication on “peculiar elongated cells” – what we now term sickle cell disease. OERs will include:
1) Life Science content to support and promote STEM subjects,
2) Social Science content to raise social awareness, and
3) Cross-curricula content including art and history to promote interest and engagement.

- Insights into leading an institutional cultural transformation of embedding OER in educational development processes.
Key Focus Areas
- Specialist courses linked to the needs of particular sectors of employment including STEM and Health Care Sectors
- A distinctive subject where a low volume of provision exists.
